Having designed and produced the winning bid that secured London’s place as the host venue for the Joint World Athletics Championships in 2017, we were commissioned to create the brand identity for the event itself.
The Championships comprised both the IAAF and IPC organisations, coming together for the first time, to form one joint World Athletics Championships, which together would form an incredible Summer of World Athletics in 2017.

The Championships comprised both the IAAF and IPC organisations, coming together for the first time, to form one joint World Athletics Championships, which together would form an incredible Summer of World Athletics in 2017.

Working to strict guidelines we created the full suite of master marques for the IAAF event identity. From that agreed identity system, we then created a ‘sister’ identity for the IPC.

As well as the creation and management of the master identities, we developed the overall brand identity and look and feel for the joint spectacle: The Summer of World Athletics. Both organisations shared the visual toolkit.
From tone-of-voice through to a distinct colour scheme, and the signature graduation from yellow ochre to purple, representing a hot summer London sunset.

From May through to September 2017, Team Personal Best were delivering a nationwide programme of athletics-themed events up and down the country. From community open days to jogging groups.
Designed as a sister identity to the main event identity, this initiative was aimed at community engagement. Team Personal Best aimed to be inclusive and accessible to all.
